Hi all
Rod Hart took the workshop last Tuesday; he took us through the well-known Dizzy Gillespie tune "A Night In Tunisia" which goes between Latin feel to Swing and back again and has an interlude played between the solos.
The chord sequence is unusual with the A section being a dominant 7th dropping down a semitone to a minor chord with a minor II-V7-I turnaround.
In the B section the first four bars are a minor II-V7 to a minor 7th which goes to a V7 and then drops down a tone to m7-V7-Maj6 and returns to the A section with a m7-V7.
Rod also encouraged us to memorise our parts so by the end of the evening we turned the music over and played it from memory which was a great success.
This Tuesday our tutor is Mark Bassey.
Hope to see you there.
