Fwd: Waterman Free Jazz Licks!

You might be interested. I have also posted a piece on the blog about chest infections caused by mould in brass instruments. Can affect saxophonists as well. A reminder that a Co-op band, Greg and Annie, will be playing at the Dome this Saturday lunch time.

Introducing

'Jazz Lick of the Month'

Hi Steve

I thought it would be great to offer something new that anyone interested in improving their playing can introduce into their practice sessions.
And the free monthly Jazz Licks were born!

Ideal for building on your improvisation techniques.

A new Jazz Lick will be added to the website on the 1st of every month, giving you time to master each one and introduce it to your jazz playing.

You can listen to me play the lick, follow the music and pattern, and I have offered simple exercises to help you build your techniques and confidence.

Make a note in your diary to take advantage of these free jazz tips throughout the year - I hope you like them!
Let me know how you get on. Here's the link to my February Jazz Lick of the Month.

Jazz Weekend gets a new home!

We have a great new venue for this years Contemporary Big Band Jazz Weekend. The Heronstone Hotel is very close the breathtaking Heritage Coastline of Glamorgan in South Wales, yet only a few miles off the M4.

This weekend is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in performing with a big band, who want to improve their playing - or just want to immerse themselves in a positive performing environment with no pressure and lots of encouragement.

Alan Barnes and I will be working with you on our own charts, and I will be writing some new charts especially for the workshops and sessions.
Alun Vaughan will be keeping the rhythm. He completes our 'trio of tutors' for the weekend.

As always we will be covering many different styles of big band music, sectional playing and jazz improvisation.

There's plenty of time for social playing, with informal jam sessions during the evenings for those who want to take part or just listen.

Non playing partners are also very welcome!
The accommodation is contemporary and comfortable, the food is great, and there's a lovely pool and spa area.

For more details please follow the information link below, where you'll also find the booking form and a flyer you may find useful if you know anyone who you think might be interested in joining us this time.

You are welcome to download the flyer and post it wherever you think it will be of interest.

If you have any questions, please mail Lorraine, who is managing course administration on my behalf.  She'll also be able to advise the availability of individual one to one tuition sessions with Alan Barnes, Alan Vaughan or myself.

Thanks to all of you who have already reserved your place.
If you have not booked yet, we have a few chairs still available, but Lorraine tells me that they are filling fast so please drop her a line or give her a call  soon if you are interested in coming along.

Enjoy the Jazz Licks, and I hope to see you at the Jazz Weekend!
Best regards

Steve
