Fwd: BJMC conquers Minor II V I !

Latest from Mark Bassey. Next Tuesday sees the brilliant Julian
Nicholas taking a couple of weeks on that most important of scales for
improvisations - pentatonics. More when I have it.

Hi Everybody,

This is just a quick note to say thanks for making me so welcome at
the Co-op these past four weeks and well done to everyone who came
along. The level of focus and concentration was brilliant producing
was some really structured improvising and wonderful music making - it
was a great pleasure working with you all.

If anyone still wants copies of tunes or other handouts and can't get
them from the BJMC blogspot (which you are presumably on as you read
this) then you can email me and I'll send you a pdf file.

If you would like to find out about my gigs and teaching activities
etc, then do visit me at:  www.markbassey.com

Keep up the good work and have a great time with Julian.

Cheers Mark

Hi Steve,

Here are a few more offerings for the last in my series of four
sessions on the minor II V I.

Also I suggested looking at Night and Day and posed the question, what
is the harmonic link with Woody 'n' You ?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for posting the info about our last jam session at the Alibi,
Hove, on the Co-Op Blog. We had a lot of interest and a really good
turnout from the co-op members, and one member even played for the
first time in a public jam. We're having our second jam on:

Thursday 26th January at 8.30

and it would be great if you could post this on the co-op blog again.
Entrance is free, and everyone is welcome to join in or just sit back
and enjoy the music. The Alibi pub (22 Victoria Terrace, Hove) is near
the King Alfred Leisure Centre, next to the Texaco station on
Kingsway. There's a brief write-up of our last jam on our blog at
www.jazzjamsessions.wordpress.com

Cheers

Hi Steve,
Great turn out last Tuesday for the first of my four sessions - thanks to everyone who came along.
I'm attaching various handouts on the minor II V I  including some voicing examples for piano and also guitar, and some simple ideas for soloing over the first four bars of It Could Happen To You. We'll do
some more work on this tune next week and also have a look at Beautiful Love.

Jazz Jam next Thursday

Hi Steve,
A group of us past and present co-op members (myself, James Farebrother, piano; Oli Vincent, electric bass; with Giovanni Greco, drums) are getting together to have a jazz jam session on Thursday12th January at the Alibi pub in Hove. My own experience has been that there is a big step between playing in the co-op, and playing in theexisting jam sessions around town where it can be difficult, and sometimes a little intimidating, to get up on stage. We hope to bridge that gap with an informal and supportive atmosphere where everyone
feels they can have a go, similar to the jam sessions I've played with the coop.
I'd be grateful if you could post this on the blog and mail it to the co-op members. This will be a one-off event but if it's successful, we hope to do more, and it would be great to have the support of co-op members for the first night, whether it's to play or just to listen to some jazz.
The Alibi Pub (22 Victoria Terrace, Hove) is on Kingsway, next to the Texaco Petrol Station and near the King Alfred Leisure Centre (http://www.thealibihove.co.uk/).
The jam will start at 8.30pm on Thursday 12th January. Entrance is free. Bring concert parts if possible, and we're looking forward to seeing you there!

Hi Steve,

Happy New Year to you.

Here are some tunes I thought we could look at (focussing on the topic
of 'minor II V I's' as suggested by Tim).

We may also look at Stella By Starlight.

Thanks Steve. Look forward to seeing everybody tomorrow.

Cheers Mark
