Julian Nicholas @ the jazz Club this Friday

Co-opistas

just a reminder that one of our favourite tutors leads the band at the Jazz Club at the Komedia on Friday. He has the great Chris Batchelor (Loose Tubes) with him on trumpet with a tribute to Harry Beckett who died recently. Julian always gets a good Co-op turnout and has always delivered a fabulous gig. Hope to see you there. Highly recommended.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the round-robin.  As many of you know (and coming along) I'm setting up a one day a week (tuesday) course at The Brunswick starting in Jan.  I have had an excellent response to the course and this is a final push to get a few more students for the pilot in January.  The benefits of enrolling now is that current students will receive the ten week course for the very reasonable price of £250.  This will remain throughout the year to current students.  The usual price for the course to students enrolling from after January is £350.  Can you please forward this information/flyer to anyone who you think might be interested in attending.  Please also direct them to

Many thanks and look forward to seeing/hearing from you soon!

Many thanks,

-Wayne

PS - Current/Prospective students, please contact me ASAP to secure your place.  Spaces are going fast so secure your place to avoid loosing out.

Sorry for the round-robin.  bsja5flyer1proof(1)-001.jpg

Fwd: Steve Waterman Jazz Weekend 2011 - Invitation

Steve Waterman Contemporary Big Band Jazz Weekend

with Alan Barnes

April 15th -17th 2011

Hi Steve

I'm holding my sixth Contemporary Big Band Jazz Weekend in April next year. Alan Barnes is joining me again, so it promises to be a great weekend.

We'll be playing some of mine and Alan's charts, and I will be writing some new charts especially for the workshops and sessions.
Alun Vaughan will be keeping the rhythm. He completes our 'trio of tutors' for the weekend.

This event is an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in performing with a big band, who want to improve their playing - or just want to immerse themselves in a positive performing environment with no pressure and lots of encouragement.

As always we will be covering many different styles of big band music, sectional playing and jazz improvisation.

There's plenty of time for social playing, with informal jam sessions during the evenings for those who want to take part - or just listen.

This is a residential weekend, but sometimes we can offer day places. If you prefer that option, please enquire for details.

The Diplomat Hotel in Llanelli, South Wales have once again agreed to host the 2011 event. The accommodation is contemporary and comfortable, the food is great, and they look after us well every year.

Non playing partners are also very welcome! We have organised discounted rates with the hotel, contact Lorraine for details.

If you'd like to find out more, please follow the information link below, where you'll also find the booking form and a flyer you may find useful if you know anyone who you think might be interested in joining us this time.

http://swjo.co.uk/index.php?page=7

You are welcome to download the flyer and post it wherever you think it will be of interest.

If you have any questions, please email Lorraine, who is managing course administration on my behalf.  She'll also be able to advise the availability of individual one to one tuition sessions with Alan Barnes, Alan Vaughan or myself.

Hope to see you there,
Best regards

Steve

Fwd: Tuesdays BJMC Workshop

Co-opistas

Wayne's Tunes for last night and next week. Print outs for next Tuesday would probably be a good idea. Great session last night. Learnt a lot.

Steve

The first session will be looking at using Pedal Points in tunes (A Child is Born, In Your Own Sweet Way). The following Tuesday will be looking at how to apply scales/modes to less familiar tunes or non-standards (Beatrice and I'll choose another one over the next day or so).

See you Tuesday!

Tuesdays BJMC Workshop

Co-opistas

Wayne McConnell will be taking the workshop on for the next two weeks. Wayne teaches on the Chichester course. Apologies for those of you that turned up at the Open House last week to find it closed! We weren't told. We are assured by the management that are usually very good to us that all will be well this coming Tuesday. Another disappointment is that we were not able to pull a band together for the Dome today but again we will have it sorted for next week.

Tonight the amazing Gwylim Simcock is at the Komedia. The London Jazz festival started yesterday and Emma Thompson and I went to see Chris Potter at Ronnie Scott's. We were sat at different tables though. Chris Potter was totally fantastic.
