BJMC June July dates

Co-opistas

Our led workshops continue at the Open House this Tuesday with the fabulous Angele. She will probably be running us through Have You Met Miss Jones which is a tune to keep up with. Last Tuesday Angele took two bars to a chord and worked us through using diminished scales over dominant 7 chords and then moving back to the minor chord. She also looked at use of the dominant chord as a passing chord to give a chromatic movement in the root. For example G#dom is the same chord at G7 but with a sharp G (which is how I always work out the notes in a dominant 7 anyway - naughty I know but I do love a shortcut). Anyway Miss Jones is in the Real Book but I may send you the dots if you are really good. The dates, locations and tutors for the June and July workshops are attached.

See you on Tuesday.

Co-opistas

This Tuesday we return to our long time home at the Open House. Angele will be taking the session. For those that have not had the treat of an Angele session before she has a fantastic feel for the music and often works by ear a lot. The dots are attached but you don't have to be a good reader or to read at all to come. All levels welcome. This will be a good session, guaranteed.

See you there.

Re: Lost Real Book!

The very lovely Greg Maddocks lost his real book at the last "performance". Has anyone seen it? If you are looking after it until the owner turns up then email me. Thanks.

Tuesday Jazz Workshop

This Tuesday will be another festival jam session at Preston Park Tavern at 8.00. Last weeks session was lots of fun with some barnstorming solos and a fab rhythm section. Anyone who says BMJC members don't improve is plain wrong. Bring your Real Books. We will have some lead sheets as well and will be playing This Masquerade. Recordame and Moon Alley amongst a load of other tunes. If you want something played then bring it along or it may be the Real Book. These sessions cater to a wide spectrum of talent so don't be shy about coming along.

Jam Sessions in May @ The Park View Tavern, Preston Drove

Co-opistas

A good time was had by most last Tuesdays at the Park View Tavern. We played about 8 or 9 tunes. Several people bought tunes to play. Next Tuesday we start at 8.00. If you have a Real Book then bring it as this gives us a bigger range of choices. This will be an opportunity for more extensive playing. The cost is only £2 for these sessions and it helps re-build the coffers for when we have tutors. And we even get an audience some times.

Jam Sessions in May @ The Park View Tavern, Preston Drove

Co-opistas

Regulars will know that the Open House accommodates plays during the festival and we therefore have to vacate. For those of you itching to improvise over the May Festival season a treat is in stall on Tuesdays at the Park View Tavern. It is just at the northern end of Preston Park. Doors open 7.30. If you have a Real Book then bring it. We will have the dots for some popular standards and will play some blues. This will be an opportunity for more extensive playing. The cost is only £2 for these sessions and it helps re-build the coffers for when we have tutors. Tuesday we will be doing Footprints and One Note Samba amongst other tunes.
