Last workshop for 2008 led by Terry Seabrook

Terry's session rocked. He sorted some nice arrangements and a salsa version of Merry Gentlemen made a mundane tune really interesting and a joy to solo over. Terry spelt out the key centres, showed where the 2/3 clave should be placed, on the second beat. I thought he could have done a little more on the chords, major and minor 251s, scales to play when looking for alterations but then he already packed a lot in. Everyone got the chance to have a good blow. It was intersting for the rhythm section as well. Comments?

No10 petition to scrap Form 696

A petition has been started on the Prime Minister's website calling for Form 696 to be scrapped:

It also states: 'The 696 Form compels licensees who wish to hold live music events in 21 London Boroughs to report to the police the names, addresses, aliases and telephone numbers of performers, and most worryingly, the likely ethnicity of their audience. Failure to comply could result in fines or imprisonment. We believe this places unnecessary and frankly Orwellian powers in the hands of the Metropolitan Police, an institution which does not have the best record of racial fairness. The 696 form can only serve to deter the staging of live musical events - a positive form of activity in London and all cities - stifle free expression and quite possible penalise certain genres of music and ethnic audiences. It is an intrusion too far.'

Fwd: No10 petition to scrap Form 696

Jon McClure, lead singer with Reverend & The Makers, have set up a petition on the official website of the Prime Minister's office in an attempt to get the Metropolitan Police to stop using Form 696.
The form is used in risk assessments at gigs, and ask for the ethnicity of those who may be attending, as well as the style of music that will be played. Quite what this has to do with risk assessment is beyond us.
In response McClure has created the petition, to protest against what he calls is "racial discrimination". The indie star is not the first industry figure to draw attention to the form. Undertones' legend Feargal Sharkey has reported its use to the Equality And Human Rights Commission, and as head of the industry group UK Music has protested against the form.
The protests against Form 696 are ongoing.
